KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2017
jbhnews.com, https://jbhnews.com/masteron-the-most-effective-steroid/43299/; We have tested the new KTM 1290 Super Duke R on the Losail Circuit, Qatar.
KTM has taken us to Qatar to take part in the exclusive presentation of the KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2017, a motorcycle that is placed as the flagship of the Austrian firm. We have been able to roll with her under the focus of the Losail Circuit and check how well the improvements in her propeller, the new electronic solutions and his new design have made us all who have had the opportunity to be there.

If I had to make a list with the 10 bikes I would have in the garage of my dreams, the KTM 1290 Super Duke R would certainly be one of the first ones I would select. With 1,300 cc, 140 Nm of pair and 177 cv, you don't need to explain why this KTM is one of the bikes that can offer you the most beastly sensations of the market, something that was recorded on fire since I first tested it in the international presentation of the previous version.
That's why when I received the call from KTM Spain to tell me that they wanted Motorbike Magazine to be one of the three Spanish media that were going to go to this test, my high was a capital. Note that Motorbike Magazine has not yet completed two years of life and go to a presentation as exclusive – and bestial – as this one, is one of the best recognition we have ever received.
We prepared our gala improvements for this presentation and set our way to Doha. Once there, we head to Marsa Malaz Kempinski, a hotel located in one of the twelve islands of La Perla, an artificial archipelago that has become one of the most exclusive areas of Qatar. This hotel was our operating centre for three days and the place that allowed us to first-hand know a surreal world; a place where luxury is overwhelming and that allowed us to contemplate closely the peculiar high Qatari society.
This luxurious environment chosen for this release highlights the importance of this model for KTM, as in the end the Super Duke is the flagship of the Austrian brand. A motorcycle that has been designed to intimidate, both because of its appearance – which leaves no doubt of its aggressiveness– and its propulsor, which offers performances that will make it "popó" to the one who commits the daring to climb one of these without having been able to domar smaller motorcycles.
After a brief contact on the streets of La Perla, the true presentation of this motorcycle took place at the Circuit de Losail, a day that I will remember from now on as The Day of the Beast.

Price of the KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2017 and its rivals
The new KTM Superduke, so far known as The Beast, has been updated by adopting state-of-the-art technology and improvements that make her win the surname of The Beast 2.0. However, all the improvements received have only made a difference in price (17,399 €), which is increased by only €620.
That is, the price of the new Superduke is at the top of the high-fly Supernaked segment. Among all its rivals, the Aprilia Tuono V4 Factory is its direct rival for both price (18,499 €) and power, as it has 175 cv compared to the 177 KTM.
In terms of power, the BMW S 1000 R and the new Yamaha MT-10 SP are a step behind the KTM and the Aprilia. And a little further, the Ducati Monster 1200 S, the Kawasaki Z1000 R and the Triumph Speed Triple R.
After trying out the most powerful and plumbing of the Súpernaked segment bikes, it is clear that the segment is on the rise and that the fight for electronics and pure performance is in full swing.

Electronics. New KTM Super Duke, Beast 2.0.
During the technical presentation we were told of the entire Duke range, with special emphasis on the 125 cc model, which has been the bike that has given them a greater volume of sales and has allowed them to have the resources necessary to evolve all their bikes.
In other words, if the KTM 125 Duke had not existed, the new Super Duke R would not have been able to receive all the improvements with which it has been equipped, and much of them come in the electronics section.
We'll tell you what they are:
First, two new features that, while not influencing Super Duke's behavior, are key aspects in the interaction of this KTM with the user.
* KTM Race On System: The new Superduke now has a new electronic key that is detected by proximity and which allows to turn on the motorcycle or open the tank without having to take it out of the pocket. That is, if you want to open the seat you need to use the key in the traditional style.
♪ TFT Command Table: The new command box abandons the previous model's digital+analog scheme to be now composed of a color TFT display that is flanked by rows of witnesses on both sides. Depending on the driving mode, it offers different information groups and, in the Track Mode, displays a different design.
These two novelties are seen at first glance, but the truly important ones are more hidden and are those that truly influence the dynamic behavior of this beast:
* Motor Slip Regulation (MSR): Engine retention control system. If an accused slip of the rear train is detected, the centralite will act slightly accelerating to recover control.
* Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC): The new traction control has been developed to achieve the best commitment between smooth running and fun driving. The system takes into account the scooter's inclination angle and when it detects slide on the rear train, it acts on the butterflies of the accelerator offering a smoother response than the systems that act on the ignition or injection.
♪ Ride by wire: The Super Duke R accelerator is still electronic, although it is now drawn with new electronic solutions that were not available in the previous model.
♪ Driving Modes: The KTM 1290 Super Duke R features three driving modes in its series configuration –Rain, Street and Sport – with different MTC intervention levels and different power deliveries. As an extra option, there is Track Drive mode, which opens the door to a new world of configuration options.
♪ Accelerator response: The accelerator response can be selected from three options –Street, Sport and Track – being progressively more direct. This option is accessed by incorporating the Track Pack (optional).
* MTC Spin Adjuster: Traction control can be configured between 10 intervention levels. This option is accessed by incorporating the Track Pack (optional).
* Anti-Wheelie Off: The system that controls the uprising of the front wheel, which with the series configuration is "tolerant" beater, is disconnectable. With this system off and with its 177 cv, the ccaballitos with this motorcycle are endless... 😉
* Launch Control: Another of the highlights is the output control, a system that allows you to make the outputs faster than you can imagine.
* Cornering ABS: This system is inherited from the Adventure range; the ABS system detects the scooter inclination and regulates the brake pressure to make it the most effective without losing the aderence.
* Cruise Control: The Superduke 2017 incorporates a cruise control. This one works between the third and the sixth march and between 40 and 200 km/h.
* Quickshifter+: The new semiautomatic change is optional. It is developed for a sports driving and works both up and down.
* Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS): This system, also new in this KTM, controls the pressure of tyres and warns if there is a loss of pressure.
As we said at the beginning of this section, the improvements in the new KTM Super Duke R come mainly from the electronic section, and are not exactly a few...
Motor. New KTM Super Duke, Euro4 but with more power.
The KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2017 engine is essentially the same as the previous version, it is the already known LC8 of 1.301 cc in V2 to 75o.
This propulsor was already characterized by being absolutely bestial, but now it is a little more, since with the improvements received it reaches the 177 cv – before 173– and retains its pair in some impresisonant 144 Nm.
To get you an idea of the potential of this motorcycle, the Super Duke offers the same torque to 2.750 rpm as some of its rivals at its peak. In other words, this bike pushes like a beast!
* Qulata: The culata has received improvements to meet Euro4 regulations without losing benefits and what they have achieved is to increase them... It has a greater compression – now of 13.6:1..., a greater hardness in the valve seats and has been able to increase the adjustment periods of the valves.
* Valves: To improve the performance of the LC8, new titanium valves have been used, with which the weight of this element is reduced by 19 grams each.
* Admission: The intake shots and trumpets have been redesigned to achieve a more linear and smooth engine response.
* Storm: It has been modified and lightened to maintain the rapid acceleration of the engine.
♪ Escape: The exhaust system is now compatible with Euro 4 regulations, making it a heavier element, but despite a greater restriction of this element, in KTM they have made the final result an increase in the maximum power of the set.
Aesthetic. The challenging design of the Super Duke 2017
If in the photos you've seen from the new Superduke, this bike has not impressed you, don't judge her before seeing her live.
If KTM has done a good job in terms of performance, electronics and behavior, I would give them the most note in terms of their design.
Starting with the lighthouse, which from my point of view is a whole work of art, such as the new side covers or the "hate" of having completely stripped the back of this bike to make it more naked than ever and still achieve a bestial result.
They say good, if brief, twice good...
Urban use. We tested the KTM Super Duke R 2017 in the Pearl of Qatar.
The first part of the test, in which we circulate in the streets of La Perla de Qatar, was shorter than we would have liked. We barely walked a bit over there and went straight to make the photos with which to illustrate this brief contact.
But that was enough to start drawing some conclusions. It surprises its ease of handling as it is a "beast" of 1,300 cc, this Austrian feels as light as a half-cilind naked.
It is easier to carry than the previous version, because the different driving modes allow you to have a nicer bike. The Rain mode, with "only" 130 cv and a more active traction control, is perfect to roll by city and at a quiet pace, but if we want to take out its most aggressive side we have up to three options –Street, Sport and Track – that will remove all the adrenaline we carry inside.
Semi-automatic change is not their greatest virtue. At a quiet rate it is rough and it is much more comfortable to "tir" from the manual option. At high revolutions its operation is more appropriate, but you know what with this motorcycle, high revolutions means highly illegal...
Beyond its operation, it is to be grateful that both its handlebars – which is now wider – as the handles are adjustable, allowing a better customization of the driving position, and it is that to tame this beast, it is better to do it to your taste...
And I don't want to miss out on the good quality of their finishes. Not only do plastics convey a very careful look, also the control box, the instrument pins and the new TFT screen is at the height of what can be expected of which is the Austrian brand's flagship.

Attack! KTM Super Duke R 2017 test on the Losail Circuit.
The true test of the new Super Duke R took place on the Qatar Circuit. There we had the opportunity to complete two diurnal tandas with an excellent temperature that was around the 25th, we made a Drag Race from which I speak to you a little later and, as the final colon, we made two tandas under the focus of this spectacular circuit.
And we couldn't only try the new Super Duke, they also gave us the opportunity to go on track with a version prepared with a Race Kit, because in KTM they wanted us to know how far this bike can get by mounting some accessories from their Power Parts catalog.
The first soda was completed with two goals in my head. One was not to warm me too soon to try to learn the circuit without haste, while the other goal was to make me the full straight in horseback...
The ones who know me know that doing bike rides for me is almost a religion and for some time I have been motivated by the idea of getting fat on the list of the circuits in which I have managed to complete the longest straight to a wheel, so in my step for Losail I was not going to stop trying and, without the encouragement of "drawing the roll," I have to say that I made it to the second attempt. 😀
But I must also confess that the merit of completing the 1,068 meters of the main straight on the rear wheel is in much of the pair, the power and management of the accelerator of this motorcycle, which made it very easy.
The KTM 1290 Super Duke R is a bestial bike, of which there is no doubt. The 177 cvs you have under your ass would be more than enough to be one of the most powerful sportsmen on the market, but this is a wide handlebar bike that is more thought to be tremendously fun for those riders who already have a certain experience with race bikes. But the changes that this Austrian has received make it more domesticable than before and any improvement in this line is a great advance for a motorcycle with so much potential.
But once my two initial goals were completed, I had to get serious and try to get the most out of a day at the Losail Circuit. With the passage of the return I was feeling more like on the track and gradually I was perfecting traces, slowing more strongly and accelerating with contundency.
The agility that I already checked through the streets of La Perla, became here a great ease to enter into a curve. So surprising is the handling of this motorbike in urban routes as is the simplicity with which it allows you to go fine in circuit. The speed that allows you to reach the curves or the power with which you get out of them does not prevent this bike from going through the path you have chosen with a facility that left me in love.
The braking is also a strong point of this bike. All day there was no time when a brake team with more power or more dosing was needed, so I also have to put this aspect in the section of its advantages.
But what I didn't take long to appreciate, and I checked throughout the day, are two of their points to improve. On the one hand, the new semi-automatic change, which did not have a very suitable road operation, does not have the best behavior in circuit. While the system runs smoothly in reductions, its reaction time when we go up marches is somewhat slow and this makes the process of change somewhat more abrupt than I would have liked.
In fact, this stick showed me what I would say is the main point to improve on this bike, the suspensions. On curve 10, a long left-handed marching up to over 200 km/h, the Super Duke began to dance with every gear shift. The shock absorber was not able to assume the load of the 177 cvs by accelerating from far below and the fork did not help stop the "bamboleo".
The powerful motor of this motorcycle and the great agility it offers are translated into very nervous movements when we roll with it with the knife between the teeth.
Acceleration. 1,300 cc, 177 cv, 144 Nm and a Drag Race!
KTM wanted us to know how to speed up his beast and set something similar to an acceleration race so we can test his new exit control.
The truth is that I stayed with the desire to try it properly, because one of the conditions that this new system requires is not to release the accelerator for an instant during the departure process.
As you can imagine, with the nerves of a traffic light about to turn off and with a motorcycle of these characteristics it is not easy to leave the accelerator anchored in the background without hesitate at all. And that's what happened to me when my shift came in; just the traffic light had been turned off and the KTM started to travel the first few meters, instinctively I dropped the gas off by deactivating the Launch Control, so I went to manage the test manually for the rest of the test.
Luckily, my opponent had it more complicated than me and I could pass under the finish line ahead of him. We didn't play anything, but the sense of victory is always very rewarding and the feeling of achieving it after experiencing an acceleration of 0 to 210 km/h in less than 10 seconds I keep it for the trunk of my favorite memories.
Conclusions and aspects to improve of the KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2017
Going to the international presentation of the KTM 1290 Super Duke R has been a privilege for me.
I have been able to attend a High Class launch of one of the most passionate models in the market and have had the opportunity to be one of the first journalists in the world to shoot with the Beast 2.0.
The changes that this model has received in respect of its previous version are not radical, since it maintains the same chassis and motor base, but the improvements are sufficiently outstanding to remain a benchmark in the category of the Supernaked.
His new aspect is, in my opinion, an entire work of art, since with very few elements they have managed to give a remarkable change to this motorcycle and to accentuate the aggressiveness expected of a motorcycle like this.
Among the documentation they gave us, there was a WP brochure with information on a fork cartridge and a buffer with competition configuration that I would install without hesitation in this Austrian, as I think it is the stew that is missing this cake so that the KTM 1290 Super Duke R 2017 is the Perfect Beast.
